A Gift to Linux Users
Updated to Redhat Fedora! This is a searchable HTML version of the the MAN pages with search and a searchable index of the /usr/share/doc directories. I'm trying to understand Linux and the documentation sucks. My brain is so full that in order to learn something new I have to forget something to make room for it. So I need docs that I can read and search. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people besides myself that the biggest barrier to Linux is the documentation. It doesn't matter how good it is if you can't figure out how to use it. Check out my new Library of Linux Books to help you figure out how to make it work.

NEW - I've added a lot of new stuff that I'm expanding. I've indexed the /usr/doc directory. I'll add a lot of new files to that soon. The search engine sees it now. This may end up being one of the biggest linux documentation indexes on the planet.
I wrote a program in MarxMenu running under a DOS window on Windows to convert Linux MAN pages to HTML so that you can view these files on my Linux web server, which is also running Samba so my windows/marxmenu can access the Linux files.
I want this to be and example of how to do documentation right and to perhaps inspire those who write docs to do a better job. My biggest barrier to Linux is the lack of documentation, and hopefully this will help solve it. I'd really like to see a lot more examples.

HTML Translation Issues
If this isn't the latest MAN Pages, let me know and I'll download and process the latest version.
In the translation of the pages to HTML I'm still having problems understanding all the dot commands and '\' commands. If you see in this translation stray '\' characters or dot commands I'm not processing right, and you can tell me what they mean, I would appreciate it and fix the problem.
Another issue that strikes me is the inconsistency of the Man Pages from author to author. This makes translation difficult. For example, the See Also sections are terrible. I'm trying to make see also sections hot links which isn't hard if the author codes a see also as, for example, man (1) or even man(1) which is sloppy because they forgot the space. But man 1 is too sloppy and I'm not going to encourage that.
So, if you are the author of a man page and are reading this, look up your pages and email me and let me know what I need to do to fix it. Or, if the problem is on your end, fix it and send me the new file. If Linux is to succeed, documentation needs to be consistent so that people like me can process it into web pages like this. I would also like to see some examples of common usage of each command.
If you are a user of this system and notice errors that are from the author, I encourage you to email the author and let them know about it. You might want to offer your assistence realizing that the author is probably doing it for free and can use your help.
Questions about Linux
Please don't ask me questions about Linux. I don't know anything about it. I'm a DOS dummy who would rather go back to CP/M. I don't know anything and I get a lot of email and I probably won't even answer it. I am not an expert and can only do the simplest things. So if you want help use these web pages or make friends with a geek, but don't ask me how to run Linux. Ask your questions in the Linux Duscussion Conference.
